The Jockey Club and British Horseracing Authority (BHA) have teamed up to launch a new series aimed at providing opportunities for veteran steeplechasers.

The initiative, which will fill a significant void in the current National Hunt calendar, will be supported by extensive live covering on ITV Racing.

Racing Organisations Launch Veterans’ Chase Series

The Jockey Club and British Horseracing Authority (BHA) are launching an exciting new Middle-Distance Veterans’ Chase Series for 10, 11 and 12-year-olds.

Run over two miles and four furlongs, the races will generate more opportunities for high-class veteran horses and their owners.

There will be seven races in the series this season, culminating with a finale at Haydock Racecourse on March 30. UK betting sites will have odds on all the races.

The series will become an eleven-race series from the start of the 2024/25 campaign with ten qualifiers and a final for horses who have entered and ran in that season’s series.

Betting Integrity Unit Flags Up Suspicious Activity

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has reported 50 suspicious betting cases in the third quarter of 2023 across more than 125 sports betting brands.

Eight sports across 21 countries and five continents were flagged up. However, the figure represents as 41 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.

Tennis had the highest number of suspicious betting alerts with 15 in Q3 2023, while football accounted for 13 alerts.

Men-only events accounted for 43 of the 50 alerts, with women-only events (3), mixed gender (3) and greyhound racing completing the list.
