Champions League Quarter-Finals: Big Guns Set for Last Eight Showdown

The Champions League will dominate many of the sporting headlines in April, with the quarter-final ties scheduled to be staged in the middle of the month.

The draw has produced some mouth-watering ties, including a clash between tournament favourites Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Read on as we take a look at the Champions League quarter-finals and assess some of the key betting angles to consider.

Highlights

  • Big two set for epic quarter-final clash
  • Reigning champions on a mission
  • Italian teams eyeing a place in the final

City & Bayern Ready to Rumble

Man City and Bayern have been the best two teams in this season’s competition and whoever wins this tie will fancy their chances of lifting the trophy in June.

Pep Guardiola’s side are the 9/4 favourites with Star Sports to clinch the Champions League title, but they are unlikely to have things all their own way against Bayern.

The Bundesliga outfit were unbeaten during the group stage and followed up with an impressive victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the last-16.

City are priced at odds of 4/5 to win the first leg and they will be desperate to establish a lead before the return match at the Allianz Arena.

Reigning Champions Eyeing a 15th Title

Real Madrid have been crowned champions of Europe on 14 previous occasions and it would be a brave move to back against them improving that record this year.

They are a top priced 7/1 with several leading football betting sites and may well be the value bet in this season’s competition.

They have been drawn against Chelsea in the quarter-finals, with the winner of that tie meeting either Man City or Bayern in the last four.

Odds of 10/3 to reach the final are a fair assessment of Madrid’s chances and will undoubtedly be cut if they pick up a positive result in their first meeting with Chelsea.

Italian Teams Target a Place in the Final

The quarter-final draw has handed the remaining trio of Serie A teams a golden opportunity to progress to the final of the Champions League.

Napoli have been drawn against AC Milan, guaranteeing that Italy will have at least one representative in the semi-finals.

Inter Milan meet Benfica in the other last eight tie and there is nothing to choose between them in the outright Champions League betting.

Any Italian team to win the tournament is priced at odds of 2/1, but that may be too much to ask given the strength of the other sides in the competition.
