Breeders’ Cup 2023: Aidan O’Brien Chasing Big Santa Anita Payday

Leading Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien has assembled a strong team for the Breeders’ World Cup Championships at Santa Anita this weekend.

The two-day meeting is packed with top-class races, several of which could be a won by a man who is accustomed to success when he ventures overseas.

With that in mind, we have studied O’Brien’s runners at Santa Anita to identify which horses have the best chance of winning their respective races.

Highlights

  • O’Brien sets a tricky puzzle in the Juvenile Turf.
  • Warm Heart could be tough to stop in the Filly & Mare Turf.
  • Auguste Rodin ready to rumble in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

O’Brien Triple-Handed in the Juvenile Turf

O’Brien will saddle three of the 14 runners in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf – two of which currently head the betting on leading horse racing betting sites.

River Tiber (2/1), Unquestionable (4/1) and Mountain Bear (12/1) should all give punters a good run for their money and picking a winner is no easy task.

Unquestionable may be the value bet under jockey Frankie Dettori, although it would be no surprise to see either of O’Brien’s other runners emerge victorious.

Warm Heart Should Handle the Drop in Trip

Warm Heart has won five of her seven starts this season including the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Prix Vermeille at ParisLongchamp.

She is dropping back in trip for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, but that is unlikely to be an issue given the filly won twice over ten furlongs earlier this season.

Inspiral will likely be a tough nut to crack in this race, but Warm Heart’s odds of 3/1 on several UK betting apps look extremely tempting.

Auguste Rodin Fancied to Claim the Breeders’ Cup Turf

O’Brien has made no secret of how highly he rates Auguste Rodin and the Deep Impact colt should run a big race in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Although the horse has produced a couple of shocking performances this season, three Group 1 victories highlight his ability when conditions are in his favour.

Numerous new betting sites rate Auguste Rodin as a 5/2 shot to win the race and he should be a tough nut to crack under jockey Ryan Moore.
