Meet Bren Gray

Ever since he could hold a pen, Bren has loved writing. Hailing from New Zealand, sport has always been a big part of his life too. So it just made sense that Bren would combine his two big loves and become a sportswriter.

There’s nothing Bren loves more than poring over a match, analysing every different angle and variable, then presenting his case for a hot tip or two. He’s been doing this for well over a decade now, working with some of the biggest names in tennis, rugby, football, cricket and combat sport along the way.

When he’s not penning predictions, you’ll find Bren on the squash court, honing his craft so he can bag an elusive win at club night.

Bren's Writing Philosophy

Bren takes massive pride in his role as a sportswriter. He believes that every moment of attention a reader gives his work is an honour, and one that he doesn’t take lightly. In a world cluttered with shoddy, AI glop, Bren loves diving deep into a topic, crafting an angle, then presenting it in a way that’s unique, useful and genuinely valuable to those taking the time to read it.

Q&A with Bren Gray

Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe, New Zealand. It’s a classic, grassroots rugby venue. Nothing better than sitting on the embankment with some hot chips and good company, watching my local team win.

It has to be tennis. Speed, endurance, flexibility, mental toughness, power, touch – the sport requires it all.

I’ve thought long and hard about this one. I say Joey takes it, just. He can get a dog down in just over a second, while Bolt would take a good 20 seconds. By that stage, even if Joey runs a 25-second 100m, he’d still have an unassailable lead.

Food should be cheaper at sports events, and there should be more vendors.

The very first tennis match I played was a first-to-nine doubles match. My partner and I fell behind 0-8, then surged back to win 9-8. Definitely the pinnacle of my tennis career right there.
