Canada will take on Switzerland this Wednesday at noon PT, playing on home soil in Vancouver for a second straight game after defeating Qatar 6-0. Canada just tied the largest goal differential of any match thus far at the tournament, but Switzerland is still favoured over them despite tying Qatar 1-1. Both teams are plus money to win with Switzerland at +145, Canada at +225, and the draw at +200.

Canada vs Switzerland Analysis

Canada

Despite drawing in a match that they were favoured to win against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada still has an excellent chance to make it past the group stage after handily defeating Qatar 6-0 on the back of a Jonathan David hat trick. They recorded their first point in FIFA World Cup history, and followed that up with their first tournament win, moving them to first place in Group B. A win or a tie secures Canada a spot past the Group Stage, but they have one of the best goal differentials in the tournament at +6, so they could still advance with a loss as long as it is not a blow out. If Qatar and Bosnia and Herzegovina tie, that guarantees Canada and Switzerland a top two spot in the group regardless of their result.

Team News: Alphonso Davies was available off the bench against Qatar but did not enter the match. His availability against Switzerland remains uncertain. Ismael Kone suffered a broken leg and will be out for the remainder of the tournament, a significant blow to Canada’s midfield. Nathan Saliba came in to replace Kone and is most likely to start in his absence. Moise Bombito has come off the bench in each of Canada’s first two matches, recovering from a fractured tibia.

Predicted Lineup: Crepeau; Bombito, Cornelius, Johnston, Laryea; Eustaquio, Salibia, Buchanan, Ahmed; David, Larin.

Switzerland

Switzerland is sitting in second place in Group B, tied for points with Canada but behind them in the standings with a goal differential three goals worse. They are coming off a 4-1 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina, switching from a 3-4-3 to a 4-3-3 after a disappointing 1-1 tie against Qatar in their opener. The score was tied 0-0 for the majority of the match, with the first goal coming for Switzerland in the 74th minute.  A win would move them ahead of Canada, securing them first place in the group, but a loss along with one of Qatar and Bosnia winning would force a tiebreaker for second. They currently have a +3 goal differential while Bosnia is -3 and Qatar is -6. As long as they remain ahead of both of these teams in goal differential they are guaranteed at least second in the Group. Eight of the 12 third place teams still advance, so barring a Canada blow out they should be one of the 32 teams to qualify.

Team News: Switzerland does not have any reported injuries and should be at full strength heading into their matchup Wednesday against Canada. Denis Zakaria and Nico Elvedi do have yellow cards which could impact their usage. Yellow cards will reset after the Group Stage.

Predicted Lineup: Kobel; Elvedi, Akanji, Widmer, Rodriguez; Aebischer, Xhaka, Freuler; Manzambi, Embolo, Ndoye.

Canada vs Switzerland Stats and Trends

  • This will be the second time that Canada and Switzerland match up at the senior men’s international level. Canada won 3-1 in an International Friendly in 2002.
  • Canada is undefeated in their last 10 matches with four wins and six draws.
  • Switzerland went 1-2-1 in International Friendlies leading up to the tournament, losing 4-3 to Germany.
  • In the six of the games that Switzerland has played in 2026, the over of 2.5 goals has hit three times. It hit in three of their six matches during UEFA World Cup Qualifiers as well.
  • Over 2.5 goals has hit just twice in Canada’s last 12 matches.

Canada vs Switzerland Prediction

Switzerland is a slight favourite to win, but all outcomes are plus money with Switzerland at +145, Canada at +225, and the draw at +200. Both teams guarantee themselves past the group stage with a top two spot in the group if this match ends in a draw, so we are expecting a low scoring match that ends in a draw or either side coming out on top by one goal. Each side also has an excellent goal differential, so they won’t be incentivized to take risks and play aggressively.

Canada is favoured to win the Group at -182 compared to Switzerland at +130, so a draw/Canada win is more likely than a Switzerland win. Both teams played their first match of the tournament at even strength and tied 1-1, while their recent scoring binges have come with a man advantage, so all signs point to this being a 1-0 or 1-1 game.

Under 2.5 Total Goals (-140)

With a tie or a close goal differential in both teams best interest, I expect this game to be a low scoring affair and view the under 2.5 total goals (-140) as the best value bet. The over has hit in just two of Canada’s past 12 games, and both teams tied their opening games 1-1 at even strength, with Switzerland playing Qatar who is a much weaker opponent than Canada.

Canada scored two goals against Qatar at even strength and Switzerland scored one against Bosnia and Herzegovina. With qualification close to secure for both squads, they should not risk taking a red or having any of their players with yellow cards receive another one and be out for their next match.
