Top Picks for World Cup Day 15 | June 25th
Curacao vs Ivory Coast
Under 3.25 Goals (-125)
As things stand, Curacao are heading home, and Ivory Coast would go through as the second-placed side, potentially taking on France in the next round. Unless Ecuador somehow beat Germany, there isn't much that the African side can do about their next opposition, but they can maintain momentum by beating the Caribbean nation.
Ivory Coast were unlucky not to take a point off Germany, with Dennis Undav's late strike denying them a share of the spoils. They have looked sharp going forward and relatively solid at the back, although the injury to Galatasaray's Wilfriend Singo is an inconvenience.
Curacao may be heading for the exit, yet they've given a decent account of themselves, and made history by taking their first-ever World Cup point. They were lucky to hold Ecuador to a goalless draw, and they are likely to give up plenty of chances here, too. Nevertheless, I'm not sure Ivory Coast will expend too much energy, and they're unlikely to push for more should they get their noses in front. They don't need to.
🗸 Long Shot: Curacao 0-1 Ivory Coast - Correct Score (+700)
🗸 Extra Tip: First Half Goals - Under 1.25 (-105)
Ecuador vs Germany
Germany to Win to Nil (+214)
Germany have won Group E, wrapping it up with a game to spare. Julian Nagelsmann is expected to make a few tweaks to his XI for this final group game against Ecuador, although Nico Schlotterbeck's injury will force him into a change on the left. Even with several key players rested, the Germans should still have enough to overcome an Ecuador side who have failed to live up to the tag of 'Dark Horses' this summer.
Ecuador have had problems in the final third, failing to find the net against both Ivory Coast and Curacao, despite creating opportunities. Enner Valencia remains their biggest goal threat, yet he has struggled in the final third, and this may be his final international tournament. Another blank is a realistic possibility.
Amongst the changes for Germany, Kai Havertz and Florian Wirtz could be given the night off, with Deniz Undav and Newcastle's Nick Woltemade available to step in. The latter is a nuisance, and comes off the back of a decent domestic campaign.
🗸 Long Shot: Germany to Win Both Halves (+433)
🗸 Extra Tip: Nick Woltemade Anytime Goalscorer (+190)
Japan vs Sweden
Over 2.5 Goals (-125)
Japan have been hugely enjoyable to watch this summer, and the Blue Samurai have every chance of finishing top of Group F. That would pitch them against Morocco, as opposed to Brazil, although neither fixture would be expected to be straightforward. They've played some fantastic football, and carved through the statuesque Tunisia defence with ease earlier in the week. Although they weren't quite as eye-catching, they were clinical when it mattered against the Netherlands, and they should get plenty of opportunities here.
Sweden have been one of the most entertaining teams at this tournament. They stuck five past Tunisia before conceding the same number of goals to group leaders Netherlands. Graham Potter's side actually took 16 shots and had more touches in the opposition box than their opponents, yet they couldn't seem to cope with the pace and power of the Oranje. This could be highly entertaining.
🗸 Long Shot: Over 3.5 Japan Goals (+600)
🗸 Extra Tip: Over 1.5 Japan Goals (-125)
Tunisia vs Netherlands
Over 3.5 Goals (+120)
Despite scoring seven times so far, the Netherlands are not guaranteed to finish top of this section. They have been excellent in both boxes, and they were highly clinical against Sweden last week. Defensively, they've looked fairly solid, and they have a potent forward line which includes the powerful Brian Brobbey and the classy Cody Gakpo. Ryan Gravenberch has also been fantastic, and Crysencio Summerville, who has been linked with Manchester United this summer, has added quality from the bench. If Ronald Koeman does opt to make changes here, he has plenty of options, and they will give the Tunisian defence plenty to think about.
The new manager bounce failed to materialise for Tunisia with the North Africans putting in a worse performance than on MD1. Against Japan, they managed just two shots, registering an xG of 0.05 and taking just eight touches in the opposition's box. The Netherlands will want to ensure they finish above Japan to avoid a round of 32 showdown with Brazil, and they should be able to rack up a few goals here.
🗸 Long Shot: Over 4.5 Netherlands Team Goals (+400)
🗸 Extra Tip: Over 1.5 Goals in Both Halves (+240)
Paraguay vs Australia
Australia Draw No Bet (+130)
With the USA having already secured their place in the next round of the competition, second place is firmly up for grabs. As things stand, both teams are heading through to the Round of 32, but an easier fixture awaits whoever can secure second spot. Both sides have a win to their name, although there is a similarity in style here.
Australia have been happy to sit deep and defend, relying on moments of individual brilliance. If Tony Popovic fancies unleashing Nestory Irankunda from the start, they will have an outlet and someone who can potentially terrify the Paraguay defence.
Paraguay are a little stodgy, but they were back to their defensive best last week and could set up to frustrate the Socceroos. Conversely, both sides will want to take something from the game, so they cannot afford to sit back for the entire 90.
🗸 Long Shot: Paraguay 1-1 Australia Correct Score (+433)
🗸 Extra Tip: Both Teams to Score (100)
Turkey vs USA
Over 2.5 Goals (-135)
The USA are through to the next round of the competition, regardless of what happens in this game. Turkey have been hugely disappointing and will be exiting the tournament. Even if Turkey won this 10-0, they would still be eliminated on head-to-heads with both Paraguay and Australia. It has been hugely disappointing for the Crescent Stars, who have looked fairly competent until reaching the final third. Despite having 62 shots across their opening two matches, they've failed to notch, and have fired in poor quality efforts. There is a chance that if they continue this approach, they will find the net in a game that doesn't really matter, particularly if Mauricio Pochettino opts to shuffle his pack.
With top spot already guaranteed, the USA can rest and rotate some of their key players. Nevertheless, the entire team is playing with a sizzling intensity, and they are likely to make yet another fast start. They often loosen their grip on games in the second half, and that could give Turkey a foothold.
🗸 Long Shot: Turkey 1-2 USA - Correct Score (+750)
🗸 Extra Tip: Winning Margin - USA by 1 Goal (+266)
