Top Picks for World Cup Day 4 | June 14th

Germany vs Curacao

Over 1.5 First Half Germany Goals (-114)

This is easily one of the most one-sided games of the group stage, and Germany are expected to ease past the Caribbean nation. On paper, it is a bit of a mismatch, and although they should put up some resistance, I'd expect the European outfit to find a way through in the first half. In fact, there is a little bit of value to be found by backing Julian Nagelsmann's side to cut loose before the break.

They have posted very disappointing efforts at the two previous tournaments, and although the expectations aren't quite as high this time around, they know that this is potentially their best opportunity to rack up a decent goal difference and finish top of this section. Several players have been in brilliant form this season, including Deniz Undav, who also netted twice vs Finland in a recent international friendly. He is a fantastic finisher who should enjoy coming up against this opposition.

🗸 Long Shot: Over 3.5 Goals and Deniz Undav - First Goalscorer (+433)
🗸 Extra Tip: Germany -3.5 Handicap (-116)

Netherlands vs Japan

Both Teams to Score (-125)

Both of these sides have been touted as potential dark horses this summer, and although neither is expected to win the tournament, they will each fancy their chances of progressing to at least the quarter-final stage. With Sweden expected to be tricky opponents and Tunisia likely to be their usual obstinate selves, avoiding defeat in this opener is absolutely imperative.

The Netherlands have a squad packed full of talent, including Roma's Donyell Malen, who enjoyed an excellent season in Serie A. Despite ample defensive depth, they don't seem to keep many clean sheets, and they have attack-minded full-backs in their squad.

Japan have some unfortunate injuries, but they are well-drilled and expertly coached. They recorded their joint-best finish at the previous tournament, finishing top of their group, beating both Spain and Germany in the process. They should not be underestimated.

🗸 Long Shot: Netherlands 2-2 Japan (+1400)
🗸 Extra Tip: Donyell Malen Anytime Goalscorer (+220)

Ivory Coast vs Ecuador

Ecuador Win (+136)

Ecuador arrives at this tournament as one of the in-form teams and has become incredibly tough to beat. They made it incredibly difficult for their opponents to find a way through, denying both Brazil (0-0) and Argentina (1-0) from getting onto the scoresheet. Amazingly, they conceded just twice in qualifying after October 2023 and quietly crept up the standings to secure their place at this tournament.

Although the opposition has been fairly low level, they have taken that form into their recent friendlies, easing past El Salvador and Saudi Arabia. They also held the Netherlands to a 1-1 draw.

Ivory Coast aren't to be underestimated, and they recently beat France in an international friendly. In contrast to Ecuador, their qualifying opponents weren't up to much, and they easily swept aside the Seychelles, Burundi and Gabon. They may find it tough to beat the South Americans, who may just need a single goal to take maximum points from this contest.

🗸 Long Shot: Ivory Coast 0-1 Ecuador (+475)
🗸 Extra Tip: Half-Time Result - Draw (-109)

Sweden vs Tunisia

Draw (+240)

Sweden are arguably lucky to be participating in this tournament. They were given a reprieve by the Nations League following their awful qualifying campaign before squeezing past their opposition in the play-offs. They have noticeably improved since Graham Potter was appointed, and he seems to be finding a way to unlock their attacking talent, such as Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak. They've been drawn in a competitive, but not impossible group, and they will see this as an ideal opportunity to get off the mark.

Tunisia caused problems for England in 2018, and they won't make it easy for Potter's side. Sabri Lamouchi is a smart coach, and although he is relatively new to the role, he is unlikely to deviate from their usual approach. They are likely to pick up plenty of bookings and win plenty of free-kicks, giving the game a stop-start feel. It tends to be fairly effective, and Sweden could easily become frustrated by these tactics.

🗸 Long Shot: Sweden 1-1 Tunisia (+533)
🗸 Extra Tip: Under 2.25 Goals (-120)
