World Cup 2026: Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina – Best Bets, Odds & Prediction

Canada will take on Bosnia and Herzegovina on home soil at BMO Field in Toronto, kicking things off for Group B at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Canada will be a slight favourite (-125) with the home field advantage and a passionate crowd behind them, but this match could end up going either way with Canadian star Alphonso Davies sidelined.

Team Canada has an excellent chance to make it past the group stage for the first time in team history. They rank second in tournament odds behind Switzerland in a group that also features Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar. Playing all of their group stage games on home soil gives Canada a huge advantage and they have the attacking quality to challenge strong opponents. The health of some key stars and the quality of defence that they play will ultimately determine how far this team can go.

Team News: Team Captain Alphonso Davies is expected to be out and the teams best central defender Moise Bombito is day-to-day recovering from a surgically repaired left leg.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina was a surprise qualifier for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, upsetting Italy in penalties with a spot in the tournament on the line. They are led by captain Edin Dzeko who is regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation, but he is well past his prime at age 40. This is only the country's second time qualifying for the tournament, and in a well balanced group they have an off chance to win it at +450 and a solid chance to qualify past the group stage at -250 in an expanded format this year.

Team News: Striker Haris Tabaković suffered a foot fracture in May but was still named to the roster and travelled with the team. He is likely to be out against Canada in game one and his availability for the tournament remains uncertain.

Canada should be favourite in this matchup after qualifying for back to back World Cup’s and now playing on home soil, but this could easily end in a draw. Whether or not Moise Bombito will suit up will be a significant factor because I see this ending 1-0 Canada or 1-1. Canada will already be hurting on offence with Alphonso Davies out, but Bombito out on defence as well could make this a much closer match than the odds suggest. 

The Canadians have the edge in terms of tournament experience with this being their third time qualifying, but they are still yet to pick up a win, going 0-3 in their previous two appearances. Bosnia and Herzegovina has only qualified for the tournament once in 2014, but they did pick up a win going 1-2. They have also faced tougher competition more recently, defeating Italy 4-1 in penalties to qualify while Canada automatically received a spot as a host team.

There are a lot of factors that set up nicely for this match holding to a draw in the first half, and there is solid value on a first half draw at +116 on Betovo. This is the first game of the tournament for both teams so a slow start is to be expected. On top of that, Bosnia and Herzegovina lacks the offensive firepower to test the Canadian defense and Canada’s offence will not be at full strength with Davies sidelined. Canada has significant pressure to perform well in front of a home crowd in Toronto, so look for them to play things safe out of the gate with their captain expected to make his debut later in the tournament.
