It's the third day of the 2026 World Cup, and there are four matches taking place. Our expert has picked out his best bet in each of these opening group games.
Top Picks for World Cup Day 3 | June 13th
Qatar vs Switzerland
Switzerland to Win to Nil (-133)
Switzerland tend to be the epitome of efficiency at these tournaments, and they rarely fail to qualify for the knockout rounds. Although they often come unstuck against the bigger boys, they tend to thrive when it comes to facing the lesser lights. They are well-organised and are driven by midfield enforcer Granit Xhaka, who has had a fantastic season at Sunderland. They have plenty of quality in the final third with Dan Ndoye providing plenty of unpredictability.
They managed to keep a clean sheet in four of their six qualifying matches and are rarely breached.
Qatar have failed to score a goal in any of their last three games despite facing El Salvador, Ireland and Tunisia. They also netted just once across their last four away qualifiers, with their best results arriving in the Gulf State. They are likely to be returning home early this summer.
🗸 Long Shot: Remo Freuler to Score Anytime (+450)
🗸 Extra Tip: Switzerland to Score in Both Halves (-111)
Brazil vs Morocco
Both Teams to Score (100)
Brazil will be expected to cruise through the group stage of the tournament. Carlo Ancelotti's side have more than enough quality to ease past Scotland and Haiti, yet their opening game against Morocco may not be entirely straightforward. The Selecao aren't always fast starters, and I'd expect the Atlas Lions to try and frustrate them for large periods of this contest.
The North Africans showed an admirable aptitude at the 2022 World Cup, and although the outcome was highly controversial, they were crowned AFCON winners earlier this year. They have bundles of quality in their side, and the squad is settled. A change of manager is the biggest question mark, yet they should have enough passion, desire and quality to potentially take a point from this game.
Brazil will not draw too many blanks at this tournament, but we cannot trust their defence, and they are likely to leak in this opener.
🗸 Long Shot: Brazil 1-1 Morocco (+560)
🗸 Extra Tip: Draw (+260)
Haiti vs Scotland
Scotland to Win and Under 3.5 Goals (+108)
This game is seen as a 'must-win' for both sides, and although that may seem odd at this early stage of the tournament, upcoming games against Brazil and Morocco have placed far greater importance on this opener. Scotland are favourites and understandably so. Steve Clarke's men looked sharp against Bolivia last weekend, and they are exceptionally strong in midfield with John McGinn and Scott McTominay likely to run the show.
Unfortunately, they still lack firepower and have no regular or reliable goalscorer in the squad. They should have enough creativity in wide areas to find a way past Haiti, but it may not be as one-sided as the betting odds suggest.
Haiti can be dangerous opponents, and having never stepped foot inside their own country, this squad will not be troubled by playing on the road. They should be better acclimatised to the conditions, but their lack of quality will eventually show.
🗸 Long Shot: Haiti 0-2 Scotland (+533)
🗸 Extra Tip: Scott McTominay to Score Anytime (+190)
Australia vs Turkey
Under 2.25 Goals (+105)
It may be surprising to see this selection for any game involving Turkey, yet this may not be the high-scoring goal frenzy that some fans are expecting. Australia are extremely hard-working and tough to breach under Tony Popovic, and having given a good account of themselves at the previous tournament, they won't be giving much away here. Like many other teams, their main issue is a lack of goalscoring prowess, and that may prevent them from progressing to the latter stages of the tournament.
Turkey do have plenty of firepower, but when it came down to it, they were defensively resolute during qualifying, which ensured their participation at this event. They have shown that they are tactically flexible and they may have to be patient for long periods of this game. Neither side will want to start with a defeat, and having been drawn in a winnable group alongside the USA and Paraguay, losing the opening game would be a huge blow to their chances of making it through.
🗸 Long Shot: Mohamed (Mo) Toure to Score in the Second Half (+550)
🗸 Extra Tip: Half Time Result - Draw (+125)
