Canada are rightfully favourites in Toronto, and they will be backed by a vociferous crowd at BMO Field. Without Alphonso Davies and Moise Bombito, the hosts will not be at full strength for this game, and Bosnia and Herzegovina can be awkward opponents. During qualifying, only two sides managed to notch 2+ goals against them, and they successfully held Italy to a 1-1 draw in the play-offs, repelling everything that the Azzurri threw at them. They are experienced and grizzled and won't make it easy for their opponents. Furthermore, they lack firepower and may not be able to test the Canadian defence, especially if 40-year-old Edin Dzeko is leading the line. They will look to profit from set-pieces, so don't be surprised if they rack up a few corners along the way.

The second selection in our World Cup 2026 predictions today comes from Miami, where the USA will host Paraguay in their opening Group D fixture. This game throws up a bit of a contrast of styles, with Mauricio Pochettino's side expected to be one of the most exciting sides for the neutrals and Paraguay more likely to set up conservatively and make it difficult for their opponents. 

Although it is not advised to read too much into friendlies, USA's preparation games have been chaotic affairs, and there are questions about their defensive capabilities. Veteran Tim Ream lacks pace, and Matt Turner isn't the strongest goalkeeper. Nevertheless, at the other end of the field, they look sharp, creative and explosive. 

Paraguay lost just one of their final 12 qualifiers and will not make it easy for the USA. Although I don't think this one is likely to descend into chaos, they may not be able to keep a clean sheet in this opener. They aren't blessed with endless firepower and they have to rely on accuracy in key moments. The USA defence could buckle under pressure from the South American nation.
