The World Cup 2026 gets underway in Mexico City on June 11th, and our tipster has picked out the best bets for each of the two Group A games, including the tournament opener between the co-hosts Mexico and 2010 hosts South Africa

Top Picks for World Cup Day 1 | 11th June

Mexico vs South Africa

Mexico to Win to Nil (-111)

Co-hosts Mexico boast a dominant record when hosting matches at the Mexico City Stadium, with the altitude and formidable atmosphere tending to work in their favour. There will be a terrific atmosphere once again for this tournament opener, and as Group A favourites, El Tri are expected to get off to a positive start. They are very short at -244; however, Betovo have several different markets to explore, including To Win to Nil.

The hosts have won 68 of their 92 matches here since it first opened in 1966, and have conceded 71 times across those matches. They did concede against Serbia in an international friendly, yet they managed to keep Ghana, Australia, Iceland and Portugal off the scoresheet, and they shouldn't be overly troubled by South Africa.

SA are yet to win a game in 2026, and although they held Mexico to a 1-1 draw on home turf in 2010, they look weaker this time around, and this is not an easy venue for visiting teams.

🗸 Long Shot: Mexico 2-0 South Africa (+533)
🗸 Extra Tip: Raul Jimenez Anytime Goalscorer (+245)

South Korea vs Czechia

Both Teams to Score (-111)

South Korea are the most successful Asian nation at this tournament, and they have provided plenty of entertainment over the years. They are flying under the radar for this year's event and have plenty of star quality in their ranks, including the ageless Son Heung-Min, Kim Min-Jae and Lee Kang-In, who has come off the back of a Champions League-winning season in Paris. They are tactically flexible, and they can switch between a back three and a back four depending on the opposition.

Czechia have taken part in some entertaining preparation games ahead of the tournament, and they will fancy their chances of qualifying for the knockout round. It's been a while since they managed to keep a clean sheet, and having waited 20 years to return to the biggest stage, they'll be keen to make an impression on the opening day of the tournament.

This could be an entertaining match-up between two sides who believe that they can push Mexico all the way for the top spot.

🗸 Long Shot: Both Teams to Score 2 or More Goals (+575)
🗸 Extra Tip: Lee Kang-In Anytime Goalscorer (+360)
