Canada were hoping to remain in Vancouver for the knock-out stages of the competition, but that hasn't quite gone according to plan. Defensive lapses and poor goalkeeping handed Switzerland the final group game, resulting in Jesse Marsch's side having to travel to Los Angeles for this Round of 32 contest. Canada were also expecting to face South Korea at this stage of the competition; however, their unexpected defeat to South Africa on Wednesday relegated them to third place in Group A. 

Although some Canadian fans may argue that facing South Africa will be preferable, this is unlikely to be a straightforward assignment. Following an embarrassing start to the competition, which saw them reduced to ten men, they have held their own in the subsequent two fixtures, albeit against out-of-sorts opposition, and have picked up four points. They've made history by qualifying for the knock-out stages, and the Bafana Bafana should have a decent following in California. 

SA have conceded just once in their last two games, and they are a hard-working, reasonably well-organised outfit. Marsch's men will need to be patient and find opportunities to pick them off. We know that Canada can get forward and create chances, and they should be able to put Wednesday's defeat firmly behind them. They outshot the Swiss, firing in seven on target and having almost double the amount of touches inside the opposition's box. 

They should edge past SA, but it won't be easy, and if they don't improve defensively, a clean sheet feels unlikely.
