Here are today's best bets for the eighth day of the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Top Picks for World Cup Day 8 | June 18th

Czechia vs South Africa

Over 1.5 Czechia Team Goals (-105)

Czechia were defeated in their opening Group A encounter by an energetic South Korea, and with co-hosts Mexico on the horizon, this game is a 'must-win' for Miroslav Koubek's men. There is a togetherness and robustness about this side, and they will look to use their substantial height to their advantage. It wouldn't be a surprise to see them target set-pieces, as this worked in their favour against South Korea and during qualifying. It shouldn't be forgotten that they are also perfectly capable with the ball at their feet, with both Pavel Sulc and Patrik Schick able to cause problems for the Bafana Bafana.

South Africa offered very little against Mexico and will be without two members of their first-team squad for this second Group A contest. Yaya Sitole and Themba Zwane were both sent off, and although the latter was always likely to be amongst the subs, it gives them fewer options to change the game. They managed an xG of 0.08 at the Azteca, and they are unlikely to find this much easier.

🗸 Long Shot: Czechia 1-0 South Africa (+500)
🗸 Extra Tip: Over 8.5 Corners (-132)

Switzerland vs Bosnia and Herzegovina

Draw or Bosnia Double Chance (+125)

Switzerland were one of the most disappointing favourites of the first set of fixtures. They huffed and puffed, failing to create too many clear-cut opportunities. Murat Yakin cut a frustrated figure at the end of the contest, having watched his side squander the chance to add to their lead before conceding an injury-time header to unfancied Qatar. Admittedly, they have a far more favourable schedule than their opponents, with very little acclimatising required for this second Group B game. Nevertheless, having dropped points against Qatar and a match against co-hosts Canada in Toronto on the horizon, this game has taken on much greater importance for the Europeans.

Bosnia battled admirably against Canada and held firm for the majority of the 90 minutes. They will scrap and win every header at the back, and will be handy from set-piece situations once again. This won't be easy for the Swiss, and with their only goal so far coming from a controversially awarded penalty, they may not have enough creativity to break down the Bosnian rearguard.

🗸 Long Shot: Switzerland 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina (+650)
🗸 Extra Tip: Under 2.25 Goals (-105)

Canada vs Qatar

Canada -1.5 Handicap (-116)

Hosts, Canada move to Vancouver for their second group game, having secured a draw against Bosnia in their opener. The result may not have been the desired outcome, but it was a fairly pleasing performance from Jesse Marsch's men, and they won't be expected to drop points here. Canada came up against plenty of resistance last week, yet they still managed to rack up four big chances, and had it not been for Sead Kolasinac's heroic intervention, they would have been sitting top of the group on three points.

Qatar battled admirably to secure an unlikely point against Switzerland in their opener. They fashioned a few decent chances, yet they looked vulnerable at the back. Canada moved the ball quickly, and that could expose the Qatari defence. Cyle Larin's introduction highlighted the strength-in-depth of this squad, and Marsch could make positive changes if required in the second half.

🗸 Long Shot: Canada 2-0 Qatar (+433)
🗸 Extra Tip: Cyle Larin Anytime Goalscorer (-114)

Mexico vs South Korea

Both Teams to Score (+115)

South Korea produced a fantastic performance to beat Czechia in their opener. They showed terrific energy throughout, taking 15 shots, six of which were on target. Son Heung-Min may not have been on the scoresheet on this occasion, yet he recorded an xG of 1.01 and is likely to get a few opportunities here. Mexico weren't particularly tested defensively against South Africa, and they are likely to find this much tougher. They remain in familiar territory here, and have that advantage, but it was hard to take too much enthusiasm from their straightforward success at the Azteca.

South Korea looked a little vulnerable from set-pieces, and Mexico may be able to exploit that avenue. El Tri took 16 shots in their opener, and although they are already off the mark, they will fancy collecting maximum points so they can rest and rotate for their game against Bosnia.

🗸 Long Shot: Both Teams to Score 2+ Goals (+566)
🗸 Extra Tip: Son Heung-Min Anytime Goalscorer (+280)
