Top Picks for World Cup Day 5 | June 15th
Spain vs Cape Verde
Over 3.5 Goals (-109)
Spain are one of the favourites for the tournament this year and are searching for their first success in this competition since 2010. La Roja are well-stocked in forward areas, and although their defence is far from vintage, they have plenty of star quality and a solid finisher in Mikel Oyarzabal. They have been disappointingly disjointed in their preparation matches; however, they have experimented with different XIs and have some players barely featuring due to domestic commitments.
Cape Verde are deemed to be one of the weaker sides in the competition, yet they can be dangerous. They were solid on home ground during the qualifiers, yet away from home, they leaked goals and were involved in some high-scoring encounters. In a recent friendly, they were beaten 4-2 by Chile, and we can expect them to play their part in a highly entertaining 90 minutes.
🗸 Long Shot: Spain to Win and Over 5.5 Goals (+400)
🗸 Extra Tip: Spain to Win Both Halves (-125)
Belgium vs Egypt
Over 2.5 Goals (100)
Belgium's so-called Golden Generation may be slowly being phased out, but they are still a team to be feared. With the exception of a dismal 2022 showing, they have been flat-track bullies and put five past Tunisia in 2018 before beating Japan 3-2 in the knockout stages. Defensively, they are far from secure, and they do tend to make life hard for themselves at times.
Although some of their star players won't be fit enough to face Egypt, the likes of Jeremy Doku and Charles De Ketelaere are dangerous, and Kevin De Bruyne still have quality from set-piece situations. They will want to get off to a fast start, and we can expect a fairly open and entertaining 90 minutes here.
Egypt may have scored plenty of goals and kept numerous clean sheets during qualifying, but this is a completely different challenge altogether. They should still play their part in an absorbing contest, and although Mo Salah remains the focal point of this XI, they have a dangerous supporting cast who can find a way through the Red Devils' back-line.
🗸 Long Shot: Belgium 2-1 Egypt (+750)
🗸 Extra Tip: Over 1.5 Belgium Team Goals (-125)
Saudi Arabia vs Uruguay
Saudi Arabia +1.25 Handicap (-135)
Saudi Arabia caused a momentous shock in 2022 when beating Argentina during the group stage of the World Cup. This current incarnation does not look anywhere near as dangerous, and although many players remain in the squad, they are likely to struggle in 2026. Nevertheless, they aren't likely to be thrashed in every single group game, and we can expect them to dig in and be fairly solid throughout. They have struggled in the preparation period, losing to Ecuador and Serbia and ended the qualifiers with a 0-0 draw against Iraq.
Uruguay have struggled lately, with Marcelo Bielsa's honeymoon period coming to a crashing halt. Bielsa admits that his style of football hasn't gone down well with all of the players and they lack a focal point. Darwin Nunez may be given the nod up front, and he has spent half the season injured and may struggle to get back up to speed. Federico Valverde adds quality to the midfield, and they undoubtedly possess plenty of talent, but they may not make it easy for themselves and could escape with a narrow victory.
🗸 Long Shot: Saudi Arabia 0-1 Uruguay (+500)
🗸 Extra Tip: Half-Time Result - Draw (+140)
Iran vs New Zealand
Iran Win (-114)
There has been plenty of discussion surrounding the Iranian team and their participation in the 2026 World Cup. It may act as motivation and bring the players even closer together. This is a highly winnable game for Iran, and with much tougher matches on the horizon, they need to collect maximum points in this Group G opener. It's sometimes difficult to assess the difficulty of their qualifying group; however, New Zealand may not be much tougher than some of the teams they faced and beat in the run-up to this tournament.
New Zealand have been priced up as one of the weakest teams in the competition and understandably so. They lack the requisite quality to compete with most European outfits, and were recently beaten 4-0 by Haiti in an international friendly. During qualifying, they beat Samoa, Fiji and New Caledonia and were always going to come out on top in that section.
🗸 Long Shot: Iran 1-0 New Zealand (+466)
🗸 Extra Tip: Iran to Win to Nil (+166)
