Top Picks for World Cup Day 24 | July 4th
Canada vs Morocco
Morocco Win and Under 3.5 Goals (+128)
Canada's 1-0 victory over South Africa was a bit of a grind. SA defended stoutly and were solid throughout, and it took a stroke of good fortune to break them down. Jesse Marsch will be hugely encouraged by what he's seen from the co-hosts, and they will be confident of giving Morocco a decent battle on Saturday. Several Canadian players have caught the eye at this tournament, including the industrious Nathan Saliba and Sunday's match-winner Stephen Eustaquio.
Canada may not get many chances in this contest, so they must be absolutely clinical when opportunities arise.
Morocco are now unbeaten in 32 matches, and they squeezed past the Netherlands on penalties in the Round of 32. This team is committed and talented, and there is a togetherness about the squad. They refused to give up and kept fighting the Dutch until the end, eventually earning their reward for a good performance.
They managed to restrict Ronald Koeman's side to just two shots on target throughout the 90 minutes, and although they aren't high-scorers, they do tend to take their chances when they arrive. Achraf Hakimi has been fantastic and is able to cover an extraordinary amount of ground. Noussair Mazraoui has looked like a different player from the error-prone left-back who has disappointed at Manchester United.
Morocco can set up a date with France by sneaking past Canada here, but the co-hosts are unlikely to go down without a fight and should keep things tight for the majority of the game.
🗸 Long Shot: Canada 0-1 Morocco (+450)
🗸 Extra Tip: First Half Result - Draw (+110)
Paraguay vs France
France to Win Both Halves (+120)
France were exquisite against Sweden, easily emerging as 3-0 winners. It was a hugely one-sided contest in which Les Bleus hit the woodwork twice in the first half and saw Kylian Mbappe have his first-half strike ruled out. Playmaker Michael Olise, occupying the number 10 role, had more touches than any other French player, which highlights just how much time Didier Deschamps' side spent in the Swedish half.
Sweden's defence wasn't particularly resistant, although it managed to keep the French off the scoresheet until just before HT. Paraguay will offer a different test altogether.
The South American outfit dispatched of Germany on penalties, having kept them largely at arm's length for the 120 minutes. This will be a tougher task. They are likely to be combative, so expect plenty of fouls and stoppages to try and disrupt France's flow. They produced an xG of just 0.35 in the Round of 32 and made 33 tackles. With eight blocks, 13 interceptions and 55 clearances, they did their defensive duties, but they just cannot rely on grit and determination against this hugely talented French outfit.
🗸 Long Shot: Over 4.5 France Total Goals (+500)
🗸 Extra Tip: Kylian Mbappe to Score 2+ Goals (-133)
