Portugal vs Spain Analysis

Portugal

Roberto Martinez’s classy Portugal outfit showed plenty of mettle in their 2-1 comeback victory over Germany in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals in Munich on Wednesday.

The Seleção fell behind in the 48th minute at the Allianz Arena but hit back with quickfire goals from Francisco Conceicao and the evergreen Cristiano Ronaldo to claim a richly-deserved win in Bavaria.

The second-half introduction of Vitinha made a massive difference and with the schemer pulling the strings alongside fellow midfielders Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes, Portugal had Germany chasing shadows.

Portugal will enter Sunday’s Nations League final as underdogs on online football betting sites, however, if Vitinha, Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes hit top gear again, the Seleção could defy the odds to pip their Spanish neighbours to glory.

Team news: Vitinha replaced Ruben Neves to good effect in the second half against Germany and the PSG star should start here. Nelson Semedo could also start at right back instead of Joao Neves.

Predicted Lineup: Costa, Semedo, Dias, Inacio, Mendes, Bernardo Silva, Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes, Trincao, Neto, Ronaldo

Spain

Spain’s pulsating 5-4 semi-final triumph over France on Thursday was officially the highest-scoring Nations League match ever and while La Roja ultimately dug out a win, there were several points of concern in their overall performance.

Spain conceded a mammoth 24 shots against Les Blues – which was the most they’ve conceded in a single sitting under current head coach Luis De La Fuente – and France will need to tighten up defensively in Sunday’s Final.

Two-goal Lamine Yamal was again the star of the show for Spain, while Nico Williams also shone on the opposite flank, however, La Roja’s backline looked sluggish and was exposed for its lack of pace by France.

Serial winners Spain, who won Euro 2024 as well as the last edition of the Nations Lague (2022/23), usually find a way to get their hands on silverware however, and they have been installed as Sunday’s favourites for that reason.

Team news: Dani Carvajal, Pau Torres, Rodri and Ferran Torres are all missing for Spain.

Predicted Lineup: Simon, Porro, Le Normand, Huijsen, Cucurella, Pedri, Zubimendi, Merino, Yamal, Williams, Oyarzabal

Portugal vs Spain Stats and Trends

  • Spain conceded a giant 24 shots in their 5-4 win over France in the semi-finals.

  • Spain are in the midst of a 19-game unbeaten streak.

Portugal vs Spain Prediction

Spain’s 5-4 win over France in the semi-finals was littered with nervy moments and lacklustre defending from La Roja and Portugal have the tools to target their vulnerabilities in Munich.

Portugal impressed against Germany in the semi-finals and in Bruno Fernandes, Vitinha and Bernardo Silva, they have a potent midfield trident capable of controlling any game. The Portuguese offer tons of value in the double chance market here at close to even money.

Prediction: Portugal double chance – 9/10 (-111) – 10bet

Portugal vs Spain – The Ultimate Bet:

Both teams to score – 4/7 (-175)

Spain’s nine-goal thriller against France in the Nations League semi-finals showcased both sides of their character. With Lamine Yamal the chief conduit, Spain created plenty in the final third, though they conceded four goals and 24 shots at the other end and their porous defence is unlikely to keep a clean sheet against a dangerous Portugal side.

Bettors should expect the net to rattle at both ends then, just as it did in Spain and Portugal’s semi-final victories over France and Germany. BTTS has now landed in each of Spain’s last five matches and we’re tipping that trend to continue in Sunday’s Final in Munich.
