Heading into the 2025 French Open, every tennis enthusiast worldwide dreamed of an era-defining clash between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz and the tennis gods appear to have come up clutch.

With the likes of Novak Djokovic meandering towards the end of his incredible career, Aleksander Zverev continuing to blow cold during Grand Slam season and Taylor Fritz faltering hard on the clay, a Sinner-Alcaraz final was always on the cards.

As the top two seeds in the 2025 French Open men’s draw, seeing the two of them reach the final wasn’t a huge shock for many punters or some of the best tennis betting sites but they have both shown their quality to reach the Roland Garros showpiece.

The undisputed top two in men’s tennis right now, the prospect of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz doing battle is a tantalising one and the sporting world will be homed in on Paris this Sunday.

Jannik Sinner

In the build up to the 2025 French Open, all of the talk was about Jannik Sinner and his return from his much-discussed doping ban.

Predictions of fatigue and a lack of match practice have been way off the mark, with Sinner picking up where he left off following his Australian Open triumph in January.

He blitzed a tough draw at the Italian Open on his return to action, where he reached the final with some impressive showings – only to come up short against Alcaraz.

Since arriving in France, Sinner has looked in the groove, with his all-round game on clay seemingly in a much better place that it has been in the last couple of years.

The Italian hasn’t dropped a set at Roland Garros in 2025, and he has been putting in some imperious performances.

Jannik Sinner – Route to the final

Round 1 – beat Arthur Rinderknech 6-4, 6-3, 7-5.

Round 2 – beat Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-0, 6-4.

Round 3 – beat Jiri Lehecka 6-0, 6-1, 6-2.

Round 4 – beat Andrey Rublev 6-1, 6-3, 6-4.

Quarter Final – beat Alexander Bublik 6-1, 7-5, 6-0.

Semi Final – beat Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (3).

Carlos Alcaraz

The 2025 clay court season has been a mixed bag for Carlos Alcaraz but as he has done in the past few seasons, the Spaniard has come up clutch in the key periods of the season.

His aforementioned triumph over Sinner to win the Italian Open in May proved to be the ideal build up for the French Open and he has been in fine fettle in the French capital over the past fortnight.

The defending champion here at Roland Garros, Alcaraz appears to be following in the footsteps of his compatriot Rafael Nadal on the Parisian clay, and he is chasing a 2nd French Open and 5th Grand Slam title at the tender age of 22.

Overcoming Sinner in the final of the Italian Open just a few weeks ago will give Alcaraz plenty of belief ahead of this one and if he can topple the Italian once again here, he will return to the top of the ATP World Rankings.

Similarly to Sinner, Alcaraz has looked comfortable in his run to the 2025 Roland Garros final, but he has had to be at his best to get there.

Carlos Alcaraz – Route to the final

Round 4 – beat Ben Shelton 7-6(8), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Quarter Final – beat Tommy Paul 6-0, 6-1, 6-4.

Semi Final – beat Lorenzo Musetti 4-6. 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0 – Retired.

Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz – Head to Head

Despite still being in the relative infancy of their respective careers, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have met 11 times already at ATP Tour level.

Both men have begun to take up the mantle from Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic and they look ready to dominate men’s tennis for the next few seasons.

Currently, Alcaraz leads the 11 match head to head by 7 matches to 4, including a 4-match winning streak over Sinner – dating back to the China Open in 2023.

Not only does Alcaraz hold the recent advantage, but Sinner has only managed to beat Alcaraz once on clay throughout his career, with that triumph coming in Umag, Croatia – back in the summer of 2022.
