Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 01/03

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Friday’s race card menu features a quartet of mouth-watering courses at Lingfield, Newbury, Newcastle and Dundalk, where the potential to extract some profit feels high. Yesterday, the adverse weather conditions contributed to a disappointing day, however, we’re determined to set things straight ahead of the weekend. Check out our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1: Man At Work – Newbury 4.45

Man At Work has been off the scene for quite some time, but returns as the market favourite in the last race at Newbury. The 6-year-old won on his stable debut over hurdles at Aintree in a Class 3 Novice race in November 2022, though he was handicapped out of contention in a Class 1 effort at Sandown (5th) a month later and hasn’t raced since.

However, fit again following surgery and with a tongue tie on, he is taken to mark his comeback in style.

If you’ve been surfing any other of the best betting sites for horse racing, you’re likely to have seen Young Butler listed as a candidate.

The 8-year-old is on a two-race winning streak following successes at Kempton and Newbury, and though there is a 6lb increase to bear, Harry Derham’s charge could be there or thereabouts.

Best Tip #2:  Streak Lightning – Newcastle 6.30

Streak Lightning finished 5th on his last outing over C&D at Newcastle back in October, though his effort then was much stronger than the result suggested, and the 7-year-old could be worth backing on his return to the same circuit today.

His last two wins both came at Newcastle (March ’23) and he resumes his running off a reduced 4lb mark here. His narrowing price on some sports betting apps is also a decent indicator.

Newcastle regular Sir Maxi also deserves a market check ahead of time. He should be more content back up in trip today and he is a previous winner over C&D in the north east.

Bobby Joe Leg meanwhile, won four races in a row before he dropped back to 6th up a grade last month. He might be more of a threat running in better company however, and deserves a mention.

Best Roughie: The Coffee Pod – Lingfield 2.37

The Coffee Pod posted a win in the York novice last September and though he failed to impress at the same course a month later, the testing ground was probably a factor.

The Richard Hannon-trained steed has been handed a favourable draw for his handicap debut at Lingfield today in what looks like an open field and the 3-year-old is taken to offer plenty of threat off a bumper price.

Brave Empire could also be a contender having won at Lingfield as recently as February 4th. He won back-to-back events at Windsor and Redcar last summer before a disappointing showing at Newcastle in January a couple of grades up.

He’s off a 1lb higher mark today and is drawn wide, though there is some potential there. Photosynthesis is another former course winner who could be in the running.

Stats and Insights

  • Newbury contains a straight mile on the Flat course which naturally suits galloping types with plenty of go. The left-handed circuit is generally fair throughout, so strong runners with longer strides can often excel there. There isn’t much a draw bias to factor into your thinking.
  • The track at Newcastle carries a testing uphill stretch at the last and with late pressure on the legs to absorb, stamina really counts in the north east. Both the chase and hurdle tracks at Newcastle are left-handed which should suit most combatants.
  • There is a 7 furlong downhill straight at Lingfield and the more rapid, sprinting types can eat up ground towards the finishing post. There is a draw bias to contend with and horses drawn high on the straight track can have the edge. That’s always worth remembering at Lingfield.
