Since its inception in 1992, the Premier League has become the most-watched football league on the planet, and it continues to provide incredible, record-breaking moments.

Here we look at some of the most iconic goals ever score in English football’s top flight, featuring memorable strikes and record-breaking feats, from some of the best players to ever grace the Premier League.

10. – The First Premier League Goal
Brian Deane – Sheffield United vs Manchester United – 1992/93

In the first ever season of the Premier League, there was plenty of intrigue as to how the competition would land with supporters. English football had spent time in the doldrums, with clubs banned from European competition due to crowd safety concerns and it needed a new lease of life.

The launch of the Premier League and Sky Sports was seen as a new era for English football and the first ever game saw Sheffield United take on Manchester United at Bramall Lane. Striker Brian Deane holds the accolade for scoring the first ever EPL goal, as Sheffield United beat the Red Devils on the day but Alex Ferguson’s side went on to lift the Premier League trophy that year.

Sadio ManeSouthampton vs Aston Villa – 2014/15

Senegalese striker Sadio Mane has gone on to win plenty in the game but when he was making a name for himself in the Premier League at Southampton, he registered the fastest EPL hat-trick of all time.

It took Mane less than 3 minutes to bag a hat-trick against Aston Villa, a feat that is yet to be surpassed and which underlined his credentials as one of the most dangerous players in Premier League history.

Shane Long – Watford vs Southampton – 2018/19

Irish striker Shane Long holds the accolade for scoring the fastest ever Premier League goal, where he showed is trademark opportunism and speed to open the scoring against Watford in 2019.

It took Long just 7.69 seconds to charge down a Watford clearance and dink the ball over Ben Foster, notching his name into Premier League folklore in the process.

With 146 Premier League goals to his name, Teddy Sheringham enjoyed a glittering career at Tottenham, Manchester United and Portsmouth. Having operated in the Premier League for the best part of 20 years, Sheringham continually banged the goals in.

At the age of 40 and 268 days, Sheringham netted what turned out to be his final Premier League goal, for West Ham, against former employers Portsmouth and he remains the oldest EPL scorer of all time.

At the other end of the scale, James Vaughan is the youngest ever Premier League scorer, netting his first Everton goal at the tender age of 16 and 270 days.

Vaughan went on to enjoy a decent career in the English football leagues; despite not quite living up to his early promise at Goodison Park but he has etched his name into Premier League history.

Portsmouth vs Reading – 2007/08

Portsmouth and Reading played out one of the most incredible EPL fixtures of all time back in September 2007 at Fratton Park.

The hosts led 2-1 at half time but nobody could have legislated for the chaos that ensued in the second half, with 9 goals scored and Portsmouth ultimately prevailing by a remarkable scoreline of 7-4.

Harry Kane – Leeds United vs Tottenham – 2022/23

England captain Harry Kane has long been regarded as one of the best strikers to play in the Premier League, even though he now plies his trade in Germany with Bayern Munich. Having come through the ranks at Tottenham, Kane amassed an incredible 280 goals for Spurs in all competitions.

He holds the record for scoring the most Premier League goals for one club, netting his 212th and 213th goals for the club in a 4-1 win for Tottenham at Leeds United in May 2023, as Leeds slid towards relegation and Kane moved on to Bayern.

Having lost the title to Manchester City in 2012, United roared back in 2013, with the goals of Robin van Persie playing a huge part in United securing their 13th EPL title and his hat-trick against Aston Villa in April 2013, secured the title at Old Trafford once more.

Erling Haaland – Everton vs Manchester City – 2022/23

Records tumbled in the 2022/23 season at Manchester City, as the blues clinched their historic treble under Pep Guardiola. The arrival of Norwegian striker Erling Haaland in the summer of 2022 had many Premier League betting sites backing City to clinch glory, but few could have predicted the impact Haaland would have at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland scored his 36th EPL goal of an incredible campaign, nodding home from an Ilkay Gundogan cross, as City cruised to the Premier League title and won the FA Cup and Champions League.

Alan Shearer – Sunderland vs Newcastle United – 2005/06

Nobody has surpassed Alan Shearer’s incredible haul of 260 Premier League goals and the former Blackburn and Newcastle striker bowed out in style here in his final game for the Toon.

A 4-1 win over local rivals Sunderland was sealed with an emphatic penalty from Shearer, backed up by his trademark arm to the sky celebration, as he bid farewell to Newcastle, as the all-time record holder for the most goals scored in the Premier League.
