Cheltenham Festival Day 4: Cheltenham Gold Cup

Taking place on the fourth and final day of the Cheltenham Festival, the Cheltenham Gold Cup is a steeplechase race that is widely regarded as the biggest run of the multi-day event. The race is seen as the most prestigious event on the National Hunt calendar, drawing in massive crowds both at the racetrack and through those watching on TV.

It’s also the wealthiest non-handicap race in Great Britain, with a total prize purse exceeding £625,000. Some of the finest chasers in the history of the sport have made their names at the Gold Cup.

Popular champions like Arkle and Best Mate have cemented the race’s status over the years. Today, it’s perhaps the most important event in British horse racing, and it’s hugely popular with punters. The Gold Cup draws more betting interest than many other Cheltenham races combined.

2022 Gold Cup Tips & Predictions

The biggest race of the week at the Cheltenham Festival is the Gold Cup and last year’s second place finisher, A Plus Tard, got his season off to a stunning start winning the Betfair Chase at Haydock. He looks like he will take a lot of beating in 2022, but Minella Indo who won the race last year will no doubt be there again this year. He was beaten on his first start, but he will definitely come on for that run and his season will be all be about being fully fit for the big race in March and to try and defend his title.

Envoi Allen will likely be a popular selection with punters in the build up to the race, but he still needs to prove he can stay 3-miles, and it will be interesting to see how he is campaigned this season. The shortest price horse for the home team is Chantry House, who won the Marsh Novices’ Chase at the festival last season.
