Germany vs Japan - World Cup 2022

The first match in Group E will see Germany take on Japan in a game which will kick off at 4pm local time (1pm UK Time) in the Khalifa International Stadium.

Germany had made it to at least the semi-finals in all four tournaments since 2002 until a shock group stage exit in 2018. Japan, meanwhile, have never made it past the Round of 16 and threw away a two-goal lead against Belgium four years ago.

The Germans do not arrive at the finals in great form but often come good in the tournament and are currently 4/11 favourites with  Betzone  to win the match.

Germany vs Japan Analysis

GERMANY

Although they are off the back of their worst World Cup performance, the Germans should always be respected in the World Cup betting. They have a young and talented squad but may lack the experience to go all the way this year.

Key Players: Joshua Kimmich, Manuel Neuer, Ilkay Gundogan

Team News: Hansi Flick will be hoping the likes of Leon Goretzka and Florian Wirtz can overcome their injuries in time to be fit for the opener.

Predicted Lineups: Neuer, Hoffman, Sule, Rudiger, Raum, Kimmich, Gundogan, Gnabry, Mule, Sane, Werner

JAPAN

They have been regulars at the tournament since 2002 but have never made it past the first knockout round. The Japanese can often be difficult to play against but lack the precision at the top end of the field to finish teams off.

Key Players: Maya Yoshida, Daichi Kamada

Team News: Many top Japanese players ply their trade in European football and have experience of the Champions League and Europa League. They could cause teams problems in this tournament.

Predicted Lineups: Gonda, Sakai, Yoshida, Tomiyasu, Nakayama, Endo, Morita, Ito, Kamada, Kubo, Maeda
