The event was established in 1766 and was originally called the Doncaster Gold Cup. The Doncaster Cup was promoted to Group 2 status in 2003. It\u2019s the oldest race currently run under the rules of horse racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most successful jockey in the race is Joe Mercer OBE, he won the race 8 times between 1953 to 1980. The legendary trainer Henry Cecil won the race 7 time and he is the joint leading trainer in the race with Cecil Boyd-Rochfort who trained his first winner in 1934.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
