Alan Shearer has 409 career goals<\/strong>, 206 coming in the famous black and white stripes of his boyhood club, making him the Magpies record goal scorer. This isn\u2019t his only record of course, his top flight tally of 260 makes him the Premier League\u2019s leading marksman<\/strong>, a total unlikely to be topped for some time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n His story is\niconic, leaving home at a young age to chase his dream on the south coast with\nSouthampton, before making history with Blackburn and then completing his\njourney back to the Toon with a world record transfer at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But what are his top 5 strikes? Read on to find out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first goal\nthat comes to mind, an absolute thunderbolt out of seemingly nothing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Let\u2019s set the\nscene. It\u2019s a bitterly cold December evening in the North East. Newcastle look\nto be heading towards a 1-0 defeat to Everton. Step forward Alan Shearer. This goal is encapsulated by its accompanying commentary. \u201cWhat do they say? Cometh the hour, cometh the man!\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n By the time the St James\u2019 faithful had got their breath back, Craig Bellamy had them off their feet again. They had turned it around. But it wasn\u2019t the comeback that had Geordies talking, it was that<\/em> volley. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s Euro \u201996\nand the nation is gripped. Football was well and truly coming home and the\nThree Lions were looking to progress to the knock out stages with a win against\na talented Dutch side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Shearer had\nstruggled for goals in the build up to the tournament and his inclusion by\nTerry Venables had some scratching their heads. But it was his second goal that had the fans purring. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Fellow Geordie Paul Gascoigne started the move, marauding in from the left before finding Teddy Sheringham, who put it on a plate for Shearer to rifle home into the top corner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It would be\nremiss of us not to include a goal from his Blackburn Rovers\u2019 days where he\nhelped lead them to a top flight title in 1995. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This goal is\nfrom the following year in an end-of-season clash with Wimbledon, and reaffirms\nthat Shearer just about had it all in his locker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He had the\nability to mix power and accuracy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The ball is lobbed over the Dons\u2019 midfield before landing at Shearer\u2019s feet on the edge of the box. He takes a superb touch to give himself a yard of space before spinning and curling the ball into the top corner<\/strong>, the keeper didn\u2019t even move. Beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If there is one\nword to describe this goal, it\u2019s audacious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Rob Lee spots\nShearer making a run in behind the back of the Aston Villa defence, a side that\nwere actually leading the table when these two teams met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The run is timed\nsuperbly from the Newcastle number 9 and he looks set to tee it across to his\nstrike partner for a simple tap in. But remember, this is Shearer and that\nwould be far too easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Close to the goal line, he manages to take the weight out of the cross and deftly place it over the head of Peter Schmeichel<\/strong> in to the opposite corner.
